New K20 what to get with it

Hi Guys,

Just jumped into a k20d, taken with kit lens plus 50-135.

Now as i am dubious over the 16-50 da*.

Would i be better off with the 12-24 plus 31 ltd. or other options

Any comments thnx

Gary

Gary,
I think my question to you is, What do you plan on shooting with the lens? I own a copy of the 12-24mm and it is a nice lens for wide angle landscape, and it gives the image a real sense of "a vast horizon". It would complement your 50-135 nicely, (of which I also own and love). These two lens' together make for a fantastic landscape combo. I can't comment on the 31 limited but many others on the forum can, all I have read of that lens has been very positive.
Regards, Jeff

I just picked one up a few days ago, along with a K20, and I'm pretty pleased with it.

The 12-24 would be a good choice. Or the 10-17 if you like fisheye fun.

Gary-in-oz, congrats on your new cam!

Where did you get it in Perth and how much?

I have been debating to get the k20D now or to wait till summer 2009 (in US) for the k30D.

Hasnt arrived yet.......counting .......down......

Should be here thursday / friday. i'll keep you posted. With all the lurking i've been doing I feel I owe a good review and posting.

I was hesitant to pull the trigger coming from canon gear, but with a good return policy i feel i've got the bases pretty well covered.

I am curious to know why you make the purchase now when a k20D replacement is coming June 2009?

Easy, I need a camera now not in 8 - 12 mnths time. And who knows what the replacement will offer. Better screen , Better interface, improved fps, better AF, improved sensor probably in which case i'll sell the K20 for $800 maybe more and get a new one, i didnt think $400 is too much for the use of this camera for 12 months.

Cheers

Gary

I have the da 16-50 and love this zoom, its a perfect compliment to my DA 50-135.

If you do buy from the same dealer as you have prior with the same policy you will be safe in the end as the DA 16-50 has quite a few bad copies out there... read some of the threads. Not to put you off but to warn you in advance.

If you get a good copy I can assure you , that you will be pleased with the resulting photos.

Did you come from canon dslr?

I was a Nikon film, ... had a point and shoot panasonic then got into DSLR, however I decided on the Samsung GX20 due to its great price at the time.

All my glass though is Pentax, just love these Pentax lenses and am about to get another FA limited prime and the FA31 is one of the choices high on my list. I'm sure you will be happy with Pentax lenses.

Good luck either way with your lens choices and welcome to this great friendly forum

If you keep waiting for the next "latest and greatest" camera, you will never buy anything. And a new item does not make an old item bad.
