If you can avoid opening it, you can buy it now and have until January 31 to return it, free. That way, you can protect the current price, but take advantage of a price reduction between now and then.

It's a very good lens. Do you need it? That's the criterion. To me, it's indispensible.

Do I need it ? ROFLOL
I've had the privilege of shooting with a loaner for a month and think this is possibly the most versatile lens in the Pentax lineup.
Yes.....that's the word ! "Indespensible".....!

It's hard to say if it will drop this year, but I believe it's sold for 346 before. Check out the deal finder if you haven't already:

Pentax Camera & Lens Deal Finder
Currently showing B&H as cheapest at $396.95 including a B&H $30 photo & video gift card.

Having had no interest in a tele zoom I've now started checking local prices on the 55-300. PLM you say? Hmmmmmm. This is why this Pentax site is so dangerous.

I went ahead and hit the buy-it-now button on Amazon Plus a 3-year warranty .
I didn't score any super good deals as the lens was $396 and the three year warranty was $37...IIRC,?
At any rate I will have it Wednesday!
Also ordered a new DA 16-85 but since it's backordered I won't be receiving until December 14th.
Gives me a nice 2 lens WR kit......finally.
I kind of hate to admit it but I'm getting real tired and worn out using manual lenses.
When The Covid Bat virus hit I had to sell my DFA 28 - 105 , my HD DA 20-40 limited ,and my DA18 -55 ..also my extra KP kit and 645 Z kit.....all to pay extra bills.
Slowly scratching my way back up......feels good !

Ron, glad you're climbing out of the hole, I think you'll love both of those lenses, I know you'll love the PLM, I certainly agree with the versatility. But this one will be better than the loaner, you don't have to give it back!

I just received it yesterday afternoon and was surprised that it seemed to be bigger than I remember....lol.
At any rate I banged out a few images to make sure that it wasn't de-centered or any other issues and was extremely happy
At any rate I'm happy with the image quality , and yes you are right , this one is much better because I don't have to give it back!

I just bought one of these at £323.00 from a Netherlands based web site (with London presence), Photo Specialist. Excellent service, even cheaper than initially advertised and a 5 year warranty. Well pleased.

Good - just hope that the warranty is "as good as claimed" and that will depend on how reliable that supplier's warranty "claim" actually is?????

I used the Amazon warranty a few years back on a KS2 that I dropped in the lake. I sent it in and they promptly refunded my full purchase price and I bought another camera. That experience gave me a lot of confidence to purchase the 3-year warranty offered on Amazon again

The extended warranty for this lens was $33.99 and covers three full years from date of purchase.
Drops , spills , and accidental damage are covered along with mechanical failure.

Any other camera brand would be bragging now.
