n00b question - SMC-A 70-210 w/K200D

Local board has an SMC A 70-210 for sale. I just purchased a K200D kit and a cheap telephoto seems like a decent idea.

I searched a bit, and saw some reference to KA lenses being compatible but they mention setting the Aperture ring to 'A', among other things.

Simple question, will this:

autofocus, and change aperture, when used with

?

Appreciate the input. My apologies if this has been discussed ad nauseaum in the past.

Disregard, found the info, exposure modes will work but focus is manual.

Hello anyway.

Grainbelt,

The A70-210/4 is a good lens. For some reason they are cheap, so you get an A lens for very little. The quality is good too. The minimum focus is 1.2m at 210mm and about 50cm at 70mm when you use the macro setting, so it is not true macro, but it does get you closer. f4 is not stunning, but perfectly usable, even wide open the bokeh is nice and smooth. Zoom is push-pull which can be an issue if you are pointing it up or down, but since the same ring is the focus ring, it means that you'll be holding it in place anyway.

The only issue is the weight: it is all metal construction. You can use it hand held, but I find that when I have the camera in a belt holster case it does weight me down (so I tend to keep the lens in my backpack when I am out).

So for the price and quality this is a good buy.

Hi Grainbelt,

Welcome to the forum

I have the K200d and this lens as well, Richard got it right the lens is fun to use if you don't mind the weight. I like the lens has the "A" setting so I don't have to worry too much about manual exposure, just concentrate on focusing will get me good pictures.
