Today a 500mm F8 mirror lens labeled "Pentax 500" popped up on Ebay: Compact PENTAX 500mm Reflex lens in T2 mount to fit most S.L.R.'s, with lenshood | eBay
I have collected pictures of more than 5000 different K-mount lenses over the past 8 years, but I have never come across this strange thing.

Does anybody have a clue if this is really a Pentax lens? I have my doubts.

Just curious...

It's actually the main lens of a Pentax spotting scope, if I'm correct.

What you are missing is the viewing eyepiece unit the screws on to the rear of the lens.

I wonder if this was even made by pentax. Seems quite likely that the mirror end at least was made by another manufacturer already geared up to make a t-mount 500mm mirror.

Thank you very much. Taking your hint as an input for a quick google research quickly revealed that in fact Pentax spotting scopes have a removable eye piece - attached with a T2 thread.

You live and learn.

FWIW: I once owned a (Rokkor) 500mm f/8 mirror lens. No matter how hard I tried to like it, the contrast and resolution was just too substandard for me. It was cheap, but I still regretted it.
