It's a bit late isn't it? Seeing as it's not made any more?

Still being made I'm afraid.
The DA* is a different lens designed for portraits.
the FA version will be around for awhile longer.

I thought Fa 50mm f1.4 SDM is going to be the newer version

There is a DA*55/1.4 already, don't think they'd do anything about the FA50/1.4 anytime soon ...

Perhaps the most telling part of the review is the notation at the bottom of each page:

"Unfortunately none of our merchants are currently listing this product"

They are referring to the merchants that advertise on their site, like US1Camera, ritz, buzzbillions, and a host of other rather dubious vendors. Still in stock at BH and other reliable sources.
