Hmmm...

I had the FA50/1.4 and still own the DA40 and FA43.

Of the 3 the FA43 is IMHO the one standing out the most.

The FA50 is a fine 50 and actually better than its nikkor counterpart IMHO, but the FA43 is just a step up and a fine step up indeed.

The DA40, is a great compact (actually too compact to me) and sharp lens, but to me it just do not have that rendering quality I like the FA43 for.

My better half quite like the size of the DA40 and thus plenty of reason to keep both around

My 43 arrives tomorrow.
It just left the Jacksonville (Fla.) UPS center on it's way to Gainesville where it will be put on the very familiar brown truck to be delivered to my house in Williston sometime tomorrow.

It's going with me to Maryland on Friday, where it'll be my walkaround prime; it may wind up becoming a semi-permant feature on my K200, therefore bumping the F35-70.

While I haven't actually used the 40, the 43 doesn't appear to be all that much bigger.

There is a difference Heather, most of it though is the Aperture ring and the hood.

I am sure you will adore it

That bokeh is like a Monet masterpiece! LOVE my 1.7!

The 1.4 is more smooth, but I like it when the backdrop adds a little impact to the image without being distracting.
