Takumar M42 adapter infinite focus

It has been documented that you need the Pentax type flangeless adapter to be able to focus to infinity. The flanged type adapters however are a lot easier to work with but dont allow infinite focus . With the flanged adapters you can leave one mounted on each m42 lens & it attaches & detaches just like a regular K mount . Some of the Takumars have a easily adjustable focusing collar that gives enough adjustment to reach infinity. These lenses have three tiny slot type screws in the collar. The lens that I have that are made this way are the 135/2.5 SMC & 200/4 SMC . I still use the Pentax flangless adapter for all my other m42s but enjoy the ease of use of the flanged adapters on these 2 lenses... wildherre

You can also leave the Pentax type flangeless adapter on the lens.
You only have to remove the little spring at the side of the adapter.
I would never buy a flanged adapter.

Removing the spring clip works fine if you you dont mind your lens falling off when you focus .. wildherre

The real M42 addict of course has one adapter for each lens, overtightened.

Naaah, it doesn't come out. At least, not without it being *really* obvious.

Yours is a really good tip, though. I have some of the flanged adapters - maybe I'll give this a try with one of my Super-Takumars.
