Any Reason to Keep an FA35 f2.0 ?

Just picked up a Sigma 18-35 Art and this one focuses perfectly on my K5iis and is really sharp. I won't be getting rid of it and that makes the FA35 redundant. I also have an FA43 LTD, so I have another really great lens that would fill the Sigma's role in a pinch, if something went wrong with the 18-35.

Anything I am not considering? The plan is to move the 35 and a bunch of older M lenses and a Spotmatic Body and get an 85mm lens.

Thanks,

John

The Sigma is all you need, especially since you're shooting with a crop body.

Thanks - and I plan on sticking with APS-C (I would get the K3-iii if I upgrade the body).

Absolutely.

The number of times I'm going out with the DA 55-300 PLM and I take the 21 ltd. instead of the 18-135, because of it' size probably is somewhere around 50%.

It's not about the day you know you'll want the lens. It's about the day you want to take a longer lens, but you might have an opportunity for a WA image as well.

With both lenses in hand, if you feel the FA 35/2 is redundant, it appears you have already answered your own question. Enjoy your Sigma.

Note: You might want to compare FOV between the zoom and the FA 35/2.0 at portrait and minimum focus distance.

Steve

(...has the excellent Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.0 (C), but the FA 35/2 is still in the bag...go figure...)

The fa 35 is small light and lovely. Also a 43 is a long way from 35 in terms of the angle of view - I don’t see how the 43 subs for the 18-35 but if it works for you then it makes sense.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do agree with all the points made...the 35 is small and light and would definitely be better as a walk around lens, but I don't really do that. The size of the Sigma wasn't even on my list of concerns when I was deciding which lens to buy. As for the 43 in place of the 18-35, it is really just a stop gap. Use the 43 until the 18-35 gets back from repair.

If size is the only reason, I will definitely sell it. If I regret it I can buy the new HD Version down the road.

I guess when you aren't really trained as a photographer you think anything works 🤣. I just play around mostly, and if I have to use the 43 instead of the 35 I'll just step back a bit.

The FA35 is fairly good against bright light and I would assume that it's much better then the Sigma with respect to flares and ghosts. Purple fringing is a different topic wide open, stopped down however barely an issue.

I tend not to get rid of anything that works well.......unless you are desperate for the money.

It usually happens that you miss it once it has gone and what you would get for it would less than it would cost to replace it.

Lenses take up very little room so are not difficult to store.

I have learned the hard way!

When the 18-35 gets back from repair (?!) do check FOV against the FA 35 at 2 meters and closer. Most internal focus lenses have significant focus breathing at the long end with loss of working distance if used for portraits and closeups.

I would agree that you have already decided. I've not used either lens so I can't write of the virtues of either, just chiming in to confirm you have already decided. Just make sure it's worth selling for what you can get, the used market seems pretty depressed to me.

I'll check that out...thanks for the info Steve. Nothing currently wrong with the 18-35....just positing a hypothetical.

I'm sure my responses are pretty amateurish...I am, and you don't know what you don't know.

No, you need to get rid immediately! Maybe donate it to an impoverished pentaxian who will give it lots of love, ..... A pentaxian like me 😁😁😁😁😁

Hey, It was worth a try

Might as well sell the glass you aren't that interested in keeping around. Curious what 85 you plan to pick up. Think you'll get anything to fill in between the 18-35 and the 85?
