18-55mm lens not working on my K50 but does work on my ist DS(older one)

Hi, I am taking photography in college and my 18-55mm DA lens on my K50 started taking very dark photographs.. I’ve seen it mentioned before however, I put on my macro lenses and they work fine so I thought it was the lens. I tried it on my older camera and it seems to work... I am so confused and would appreciate the help! Thank you

Which macro lens are you using?

I hope not but you may be experiencing aperture block failure on the K-50.

Clean the contacts in both the camera mount and the lens. It you are getting dark pictures it might be the aperture block problem.

What are the macro lenses, that’s important to diagnose a possible aperture block problem.

When you get dark exposures on the K-50 the Pentax "K-30 & K-50 forum" has information for checking what may be happening including in this thread. I had to go through this too.

Any chance the macro lens has an aperture ring without the “A” setting or it has the “A” setting and you use it on a directly selected aperture via the ring?

They don’t have the ‘A’, They also aren't working on my k50 now... The aperture and shutter speed isn’t showing and it won’t let me take a photograph...

The aperture block failure doesn’t stop the use of lenses with manual aperture at first. Later the entire shutter can stop, but I’ve never heard of the latest symptom you mentioned. Is it possible the battery has just died on top of the other issues?

It is probably aperture block failure on the K50. About the manual lenses, you need to enable "use aperture ring" in the settings, otherwise you won't be able to take a shot.
