Nice video, and I have the SMC variant sitting on my desk within hand's reach. I had no idea about the gelatin filter holder on the back of the lens. Thanks.

A very informative narrative with inspiring photos. I feel motivated to take out my seldom used SMCP 17 fisheye. Couldn't resist buying it and several other K and M lenses back in '85 when clear-out prices were making way for an almost all A lens lineup. This was the first lens I bought knowing it was more a collector's item for me rather than a practical user. With full-blown GAS I have a lot of others now.

I too have the SMC variant within reach. It does not have the rear gelatin holder though. I had no idea that a fisheye lens could be equated to Van Gogh's paintings. Brilliant. He is my favorite painter anyway, but this adds another layer of respect for me. Oddly, when I got back into photography in 2008, one of the first lenses I bought for my K-10d was the DA 10-17 fisheye. I have to say and said then, that it led me for the first time to really 'see' what photography could capture that the eye can not. Thanks for posting this. Very cool.

As someone who understands a little Dutch, I enjoyed the part about the correct pronunciation of Van Gogh.

I don't have the Takumar, but I do have the Fujinon 16mm f/2.8 fisheye in 42mm screw-fit, which also has a built-in filter wheel, but not the little gelatin holder … neat!
A favourite whilst I was using film, it's not had so much use with my APS-C cameras … maybe a K-1 some day

Very Poignant. I wish some of his recognition could have come in his lifetime.

I should use the DA 10-17 fisheye more often, including on the K1. It's covers the FF sensor above about 14.5 mm. The Tak looks fascinating.

Serves to remind me that I was going to try my DA 10-17 on some spring flower wideangle closeups. Thanks for posting, Parry.
