I don't think I have any significant regrets. Even though I have some lenses that are not in rotation most were inexpensive. The main sequence would be in telephoto lenses.
Started with a sears 70-200 that was my dad's from 78 or 79 when I ended up with his k1000 in the mid 80s. That was eventually replaced with a 100-300 promaster that I purchased with my zx-10 in the mid 90s. At the long end it is 6.3 or 6.7. but I don't regret either they worked with the budget.
Here is where the chasing and regrets start to creep in. I purchased a sigma
18-200 thinking one lens would solve all my needs. It is softer and slower than I like. I paid $100. it gets used a little. Then few years ago I started shooting more sports with the k3 I purchased another promaster this time 70-300 f5.6. it is better and I have some good shots (all in bright sun) but I probably only used it for 6 months. I think I paid $20 so I got my money's worth. But at the same time I picked up a the dal 50-200 wr for $50 it only gets used in bad weather. In hindsight $170 would have been better spent on a pentax 18-135.
I now use a tamron 70-200 f2.8 which I love. But having the 18-135 would have been a nice addition
I also have a 200 f4.5 3rd party manual focus that I paid $15. It has only been used a couple times. But it was the cost of a lunch
I still have all of the lenses in question
