A* 300mm f4 red ring

Came across this lens on e bay. Never seen a red ring on a A* 300mm f4 before.
Is this normal? Anyone knows?

It looks like it has been applied later to make it look like the markings on a Canon L series lens.

You are probably right. Why would someone do this? The lens looks perfect otherwise. They could have removed the tape before sale. better stay away from this now. Never know what else has been tampered with. Shame.

Wouldn't hurt to ask the seller a question. If they have a good feedback score, as you say, it would be a shame to pass it up.

bingo - for someone looking to buy the lens to use, rather than be concerned with a resale price, this could be a bargain....

Are they suggesting in the listing the red ring is significant? Could just be something the previous owner did to personalize his equip, nothing unusual in that.

Perhaps it's luminescent tape so that the lens is easier to see in dark environments.

At my friend's parents camera shop they used to put red tape exactly like that on the demo lenses so they wouldn't get sold.

It's still for sale. For $580 bucks you can have it. I'll keep my Pentax A 400mm/5.6 I purchased for $260.
