Sigma 21-35 F2.8 lens

I have the opportunity to purchase a Sigma 21-35 F2.8 lens. I checked the lens database here as well as on the Sigma forum and this lens isn't listed. I have asked the seller to confirm that the lens is truly a Sigma and they assure me that it is. The only picture I have from them shows that it is a Pentax K mount. The aperture ring shows 2.8 F stop, but I can't see the highest level. It also shows the zoom range of 21 to 35. I have asked for more pictures.

Does anyone here know if Sigma actually made a 21-35 F2.8 lens. I think the lens size is a 72mm, but that is only a guess because the picture showed a Tiffen filter next to the lens and it was a 72mm filter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sigma made a 21-35 2.8-4.2...in manual focus...I don't know anything more than that, hard to find info...Although the single source of info might be wrong about the max aperture...

How sure are you about the f2.8 and filter size of 72mm? It should be nice when you are able to show us the photo's you have from this lens. That can help us to identify the lens.

The only two 21-35mm Sigma lenses I know are the Sigma-y I and Sigma-y II lenses. However, the maximum aperture for both is f3.5. The filter size of the -y II is 77mm and it also exists with the a position.

I have this one and for its era it is quite good, even on Full frame. But in a 2.8? I don't know of one in K mount. Perhaps the folks who have made a study of compatible lenses can help out here.

Here is the first picture I have.

Can't confirm that it is a Sigma, but the zoom and F stop are clear to see.

As I said, the only mention my Google-Fu can find is about an eBay listing from 2009...

From the photo of this lens, it sure does appear to be a MF lens, not AF. Quite an old model, and if indeed they did make one of f/2.8-4.2 this is probably it. The aperture ring would then show as f/2.8 but as it is zoomed the f/2.8 would no longer be true.

I wonder if it was converted from another mount and used a f2.8 piece. There is a pretty comprehensive sigma data base here.

The sigma gama was introduced in 1979.

When I look at the photos, the lens looks a lot like the -y I version that was introduced in 1979. The only difference seems to be the maximum aperture, 2.8 instead of 3.5. The -y II version introduced in 1986 looks very different. So it seems to me to be a lens from before 1986.

This is certainly an extensive list, but keep in mind it is not a complete overview of the lenses that Sigma has produced. I have previously encountered that a certain lens was not in the overview.

I finally got a video sent to me of the lens. It is truly a Sigma lens. The lens ring says F3.5-4 Zoom. The lens diameter is 35MM and it is the -y 1 version. However the F stop ring shows 22 - 2.8, so I do wonder if someone make a Frankenstein lens. The lens is located about 60 miles from me, so I am trying to decide if it is worth driving to see it or not.

Can you tell the difference between the copy you're interested in and this model?

The difference is the F-Stop ring goes down to 2.8 verses 3.5. I got some new pictures, they are below. This definitely looks like someone joined two lenses together as there are screws along the outside just below the F Ring. See first picture
