Front element on the 15-30 f2.8 lens

Hi all.

I was looking at an image of the Pentax 15-30 f2.8 and it looks curved. Is that true? Is it possible to use filters on it? (ND, Polarizers)

Thanks

The 15-30 does not have filter threads, however you can use filters with some sort of third party holder system.

Such as this for 145mm round filters:
WonderPana Filter Holder for Tamron 15-30mm SP F/2.8 Di VC USD (G1 & G ? Fotodiox, Inc. USA

Or this for 150mm square filters:
The LEE SW150 Mark II Filter System especially designed for a range of popular ultra-wideangle lenses.

If you search the forums you should be able to find some older threads on that topic.

It has no filter thread.

However, 3rd-party filter holders may be an option. The thread below might provide some leads...

Polarisers are problematic for ultra-wide lenses in any case. Your blue skies will look pretty weird because of the very different polarisations coming from different angles. Maybe this is an issue for variable ND filters as well; I haven't tried it.

If you want long exposure shot, you can use composite shooting mode instead of ND filter, e.g. 40 shots with short exposure (let's say 1/5 s)

Interesting. Did you do that in camera? Was exposure correct (not divided by 40) for each shot and then averaged in the composite picture?

Fantastic all. Thanks Medex. I had taken and stacked multiple images before but never like that. What a cool idea!

There are different modes in composite menu. I used normal exposure.
