FA*85 on longer distance

Just a question; I read in another thread that FA*85/1.4 is good for close imageing work, but that for longer distance shots, FA*85 would be disappointing, leading to a 5 note in the lens review database.

I have just bought this lens - the money's out, and I'm waiting for the box to arrive - so this critic worries me a little. A short round through PPG and Flickr show not too many shots by the FA*85.

Franks very valuable daddy-thread recently did not compare longer-distance shooting. And although the lens may primarily not be meant for that purpose, I may miss the real longer distance quality.

So that is why I am asking this: could you give examples proving that the critic is wrong, and the 85 works well on longer distance? Just post them!

If the FA version performs anything like my A version, you'll have no worries.

I read that the A85 is constructed more like FA77, which is (said to be) rather different from FA85. I am pleased by what FA77 can do. But what about FA85?

I'm sure that stopped down to f/4.5+ would give you more than acceptable results at infinity.

This is my impression also, the fa85 is optimized for close work but stopped down I think it would be excellent for other use (long distance) as well.

I don't, sadly, have any experience with these lenses, but according to Dimitrov's K Mount page, the A* f1.4 and FA* f1.4 have different lens formulas.

The A* is a seven element, six group lens, whereas the the FA* is an eight element, seven group lens.
