Sigma 8-16 is the cheaper option.

Pentax 11-18/2,8 is the best for serious shooting ... and the most expensive - but if you want no drawbacks, WR and to use it for reports with silent AF. "Focus clamp" is simpky the best for night shots.

but for fun - Samyang 8mm or Pentax 10-17 fish-eye lenses give you what you want ..

Of those which is your personal favorite? I had looked at each of those at various times and never could settle on one to try. I had found a great deal on the Zero-D a few weeks back and almost clicked "buy" but then a few reviewers gave me pause

I also have the Zero-D, but this thread is about lenses for the KP, and personally I would reserve the Laowa for use on the K-1.

Just get the DA*11-18, it's brilliant! Simple.

Thing you should keep in mind: 11-18 gives you much less zooming ability (~1,6x) than your 17-70 (4x). This may be limitating ; that's why I do not use much my Sigma 10-20 because when I do want to zoom, even 2x is too little for me.

Of course it may not be a problem for you.

The thing is, each mm difference at a wider angle is much much more noticeable than at a longer angle... 10mm is vastly different from 20mm, whereas while 60mm and 70mm are different, it's not as drastic of a change...

My personal opinion is that the 11-18mm is a terrific lens (keep in mind that the field of view is something equivalent to 15-30, FF). It is not truly rectilinear, though it's darned close. The Irix 11mm prime is sharper, FF and APS-C compatible, and practically devoid of disortion, but manual focus only; it costs less than half of the Pentax zoom.

It's true! Thanks for pointing it out. That said, I do have the Sigma 10-20mm, and I felt that not being able to zoom past 20mm was limiting, and I now use a DA 16-85 which is less wide angle than my Sigma 10-20, but I know I can increase focal length without any lens change for the session. That said, with 16mm I still feel sometimes limited in field of view. I suppose lens change is inevitable anyway. Since OP already has a 17-70, he really needs a real ultra wide angle lens.

If you want a prime, have a look at Irix and Laowa (particularly the Laowa 12,,):
Personally I really like that Laowa 12mm but then I mostly use it for astro shooting and there it has a lot going for it. It works great wide open with minor but acceptable issues that get hidden fairly well because it is so wide. Wide open there isn't noticeable vignetting for astro shooting. Also the very low geometric distortion results in stacking images being simple and avoids all sorts of artefacts that can crop up when stacking, especially stacking shots from an ultrawide lens.

If you’re going WR, there’s really only the one choice (11-18). The rest, both Pentax and third party, just seem like an exercise in what sort of compromises you want. The 15mm limited is excellent, but the corners do suffer if you’re doing critical work. Doesn’t keep me from using it, but I don’t use it for everything. If I wasn’t using the 15-30 on my K-1, I’d probably run the 11-18 and call it a day. Both are incredible lenses. The irix lenses are excellent, but their QC has a very mixed reputation, so you have to be ready to do some swapping into you get a good one.

The Sigma EX DC 10-20 4-5.6 is my to go lens for ultra wide on apsc. I've read that it performs arguably better than its f3.5 counterpart, and its also smaller and lighter, which in the case of the KP comes in handy.

I suggest the Sigma. Those extra 2mm make a difference. It can also be had fairly cheaply.

Not only that, as to16mm from the DA 16-85mm, for subjects having linear features where linear distortion is of concern (buildings, or parts of buildings in the frame, interiors, street light poles, cityscapes, etc.) the distortion will be quite high, where the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 will present very low to nil distortion from about 12mm, and has constant aperture design for good low light capability at all its focal lengths.

On APS-C, the AF, versatility and WR of the 11-18 is hard to beat. Optically it's nearly flawless.

On full frame, the Laowa 12mm is by far my favourite. I wrote that it's the third-party lens I've tested which is closest to a Limited, and I stand by that. It's a lens I remember fondly even after several years. I've liked the Irix but not on the same level.
