My 1930’s era handbook of chemistry and physics, a nice 4x5 camera and a normal lens and some chemicals and paper.

Oh wait Pentax only...

Maybe I could use a 6x7 and make some kind of plate film adapter...

Alright, assuming I have electricity and a computer and a digital camera and lens combo...

I’d go for a superzoom. 18-250 or 270 seems the most versatile to document anything I could face photographing. Add a k-3iii and you’re set.

Yup, that's it. Probably make some DSO pictures to while away time until some ships passes by. Of course I have a solar powered battery charger, Astro-tracer and a stack of memory cards ;-)

My first Pentax was a K-30, in those days I used to travel to a tiny Caribbean island that could be considered deserted (population ~8, park rangers and scientists mostly). Hot with beautiful beaches, plenty of caves, several endangered species no were else to be seen. Just a couple of campsites, no drinking water. K-30 is small, light but rugged and it made a great combination with the also compact 18-135. Otherwise I would go with several lenses. 20-40, 77, 55-300. I tend to go with smaller and lighter. Now with my KP.

70 Ltd. If I were rescued Id feel confident in having more keepers to show once I was home.

I'm going to assume this desert island is metaphorical, meaning I have no dosh.
So the 28-105 it is, since I have it and it gets the job done.

I'm sorry but I have to be to be technical about this... what would you use the camera in the island for...? Spotting preys and passing ships right? Therefore a 55-300 would be my weapon of choice. The longer ones are heavier and bulky and less reach is virtually useless. 😜

Exactly what I was thinking . . . only I'd use non-Pentax lens with an adapter just in case it got ruined from the intensity. Tha way I'd be able to use my Pentax lenses after I was rescued.

For me it would have to be in the (equiv) 28-50mm range. I like the DA70 but it's to long.

Of my current lenses I'd pick the HDFA35 on FF, not a very exciting lens but fast enough wide enough and delivers nice images. A great allrounder with appropriate size.

Since you said desert island that means lots of clear dry nights with no light pollution so for me the obvious answer is the legend, my SMC A* 400 F/2.8 ED [IF].

Whichever lens has the largest elements in it so I can start a fire when the sun is out.
Another reason for the legend.

Probably the 16-85 for its all-round versatility.
That would - with a K3 III! - probably be "my combo of choice" - but until I could consider that to be "economically viable" then it would be the K-70 + "white solenoid" and my old but "great" V1 Sigma 17-70 (albeit that it's not WR!).

OTOH, my "greatest concerns" would be "OK, got great shots", but how could I view my shots apart from the rear screen?? - and what I would then do when the battery then ran "flat" because I probably wouldn't have any way to recharge it?????
