Shippo Yaki?

So I was browsing the listing for the new HD Pentax-FA 43mm Limited and found that this lens features Shippo Yaki finger points. Would anyone care to explain to a simple photographer like myself what a Shippo Yaki finger point is?

The term refers to the pearlescent cloisonne enamel bump on the side of the lens that serves as a mounting reference.

Silly me, I thought that was called a lens mounting reference bump.............. I guess I have no future in marketing. Or is the Shippo Yaki part because it is made of pearlescent cloisonne?

Thank you Steve!

So additional research provides the information that Shippo Yaki is a Japanese art form using cloisonne enamels. Often used on vases and other glass art.

So on regular lenses we get an orange plastic bump for lens mount alignment but on the FA Limiteds we get a lens mount alignment bump of enameled glass made with the Shippo Yaki process. In short, FA Limited lenses have an actual 'jewel' on them.

I don't think I will be using Shippo Yaki in my everyday conversation - even with other Pentax users.

Yeh, that is a good one. A name that could have been right out of John Wick.

There was a limited edition 645D that I am pretty sure was done in that style enamel...
