The DA 40 might be a possiblity and is pretty unobtrusive. But If you need the wider angles the DA 20-40 would be a good option as you have great high ISO with the K-3-3.

I think a plastic fantastic 50mm would be good in the two lens scenario.

Both DA 40 and DA 50 are noisy screw drive auto focus.

If you look at the picture on the Ricoh site introducing the K-3 III you will find the answer that fits your camera perfectly.
The Conclusion page of the detailed review for the 18-135 does say "Highly accurate, fast, and silent DC autofocus" (emphasis added).

The Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM you mention I would say is best for the indoor purpose you have in mind. Especially if flash is not to be used. It covers the focal length range from wide angle to moderate telephoto and has the faster f/2.8 constant aperture. AF is silent and mine performs very well. Apparently, you will not have time to wait for the new Pentax 16-50mm to come, so this Sigma is your best solution in the meantime. I have this lens, and am somewhat interested in the new Pentax lens also, but I am happy enough with the Sigma. We will see how the new Pentax lens will perform in tests, etc. but that will take time.

that was my first non-screwdrive and I remember doubting if my BBF is enabled because I couldn't hear it focus in a coughing-disturbs-performers type of event

I decided to get Sigma 17-50, no WR on this so I will most likely sell it later to get Pentax lens, or give it away to new owner of my current K-50, but for now it will do its job. I hope

Thanks for all your help

This thread had a lot of great responses

As I contemplate adding lenses to my recently purchased Pentax K-50 camera, finding threads like this is helping me plan my next move.

Congratulations for your purchase. Might I add the Sigma 17-50 can also do starburst? Starting with F13-F14, you can get beautiful ones (not as beautiful as SMC DA 15, but it's another not-well known use of this lens).

I could also recommend the Sigma 17-50. Got great shots on APS-C with it.
