FYI Limiteds

With the HD limiteds release approaching B&H is showing the Smc FA 77 discontinued and the 31 has went back to regular price…

B&H has been known to put discontinued on items they run out of. The Ricoh website does not say the lens is officially discontinued yet, just a matter of time. I would be very surprised if they are still making any, but it probably won’t be officially discontinued until they (Ricoh) have exhausted their supply.

I expect them to drop... HD coatings are just better.
SMC DA Limiteds didn't go up after the HD versions came out... they went down and stayed down.

I expect the prices to drop if there is a measurable impact on images with the improvements.

That might not be true for people who dig the straight aperture blades' rendering.

Well, in theory yes, but there are many factors involved here. like the fact that the old SMC becomes a collectible since it wont be produced anymore.
I have noticed for example, on several occasions the HD FA 35/2 selling for less than its older SMC version.

I have yet to see that (other than absurd ebay listings that no one buys)...

It might be, but since the replacement WILL be sold, as long as the performances of the new lenses are up to par I don't see the older ones gaining value.

This...^ ^ ^

Never use availability at B&H as a bellweather. What "discontinued" often means is that their normal suppliers have no stock and no estimate as to when they might get more. At present, availability of just about everything from Asia and Europe is sketchy.
