Next lens?

I have the Tamron 70-200, that I use with a Tamron 1.4 TC. I'm very happy with the results, but want a little more "reach".

I can't go over $600-800; so any suggestions? I do want to stay with a zoom, if possible. I have a 300, but use it seldom.

I guess the obvious answer is the DA 55-300 PLM. Unless you mean you want to go beyond 300mm.

There is a new 70-300ish zoom on the road map that I am interested in but I suppose that is years away.

The DFA 150-450 is exceptional but out of your budget

There are a number of Sigma zooms like the 50-500, 120-400, 150-500 that might fit in your budget. I had the 50-500 for awhile and never really got on with it but it did make nice images when it and I were on the same page.

What camera do you plan to use it with? Sorry if I missed that detail already..

I don't think there is a better answer that this. Unless maybe you would be happy with the non plm version but you already use the tc out to almost 300 so you would gain anything except a more portable package.

Thing is, Pentax has no current affordable lens over 300mm. The DFA 150-450 would be perfect, but yes it's costly. Otherwise, the best telezoom you can get is the 55-300 PLM. I know you already have a Sigma (or Tamron) 70-300, but the 55-300 PLM is of much higher quality. You won't regret your purchase... but yes, you won't get higher reach.

I'm considering Sigma 120-400, or the 400 F2.8. Or perhaps Tamron?

I had the Pentax 55-300; and I'm much happier with my Tamron 70-200.

Which one? The PLM version, or any older version? The PLM version is much better, and it focus extremely fast and is completely silent.

I'm assuming this is a typo, but my picayune brain can't figure it out...
