Buying the DA 35 macro

In case anyone else is in the market for a DA 35 macro, I thought it might be helpful for me to recount my buying experience.

After reading recently that posters on this forum got a good deal on this lens from Prodigital2000, I checked out their eBay auctions and offered them US $295 on their buy it now price of US $369. They counteroffered at US $340. I am in the US and wanted to take advantage of the MS cashback, but this isn't available for a Prodigital2000 product. With my 10% off eBay coupon, I was looking at $306 plus $18 shipping for a total of $324.

Another eBay seller (Hotdigital out of Brooklyn, NY) was offering this lens for US $389, shipping included. MS cashback was available for this item (savings of $97.45) as well as the 10% coupon (savings of $38.38). After looking through their feedback and not finding anything seriously negative about them on this forum and the other one, I did a Buy It Now today. If all goes right, I'm expecting the total price to be US $253.37.

Right now, I'm crossing my fingers that all will go right with this transaction. Its my birthday present!

No, this is all US dollars. I was reluctant to bid on the (cheaper) Canadian dollar Prodigital2000 auctions because the warranty was a 2 year Canadian warranty. I'm in the US, so I thought that would be a problem.

Thanks for sharing this information. The data are changing on a daily basis though. So the cheap option of today... may turn out to be the expensive one tomorrow.

Nevertheless, I'm glad to see how Prodigital responded to a best-offer ... this gives an idea for the future...

If the lens is a good performer from the very start, you would not need a long warantee. The lens has good quality control and you should not worry too much about warantee.

Believe it or not, a lot of things are not covered by the warantee when you need the service anyway

.

$275, $300, $340, regardless...

The DA 35ltd macro is a good deal at $500, IMO, so you all should feel very good getting these awesome prices, congrats!

I just ordered mine from B&H a few days ago. I hate dealing with e-bay, and the abiity to send it back if I get a bad copy is worth the extra money to me.

I should get it tomorrow so I can shoot Thanksgiving with it!!!!

I asked them about the warranty with regards to a 31mm Limited, and they said that the lens comes with a 1 year Pentax international warranty, not just the Canadian warranty.

Amazingly, my new DA 35 macro arrived today via UPS Ground from Hotdigital, one day after I ordered it. I was only promised "regular shipping", but they sent it out right away and I'm not super-far away from NYC. The lens appears be to be functioning well, although my testing hasn't been rigorous.

The only non-final part of this whole transaction is the MS cashback, although they have up until 60 days to remit the money.

So far, I'm really pleased with the lens and the price!

That's a great price if you get the MS cashback. I paid $292 shipped from Prodigital2000 a week ago.
