SMC M 50mm 1.2?

I found someone who is selling this lens as well as a SMC M 1.4
is the 1.2 a great lens?

also, will both of these lenses have auto exposure with my K10?
they are both around 50 canadian dollars

thanks

randy

The SMC 50mm 1:1.2 (it doesn't exist as an M lens, only the original K) usually sells for around $300, while the 1:1.4 sells for around $100. The 1.2 is obviously faster, but not always as sharp. In general, both are superb lenses

If you want auto-exposure, you'll need an A-series lens, i.e. the SMC-A 50mm 1:1.2 or SMC-A 1:1.4.

what do you mean by "origanal K lens"? will it fit on my K10 without any adaptors?

which would you buy (I am thinking the 1.2 sells for more then it could be the better deal)

thanks

The difference in speed from 1.4 to 1.2 is hardly worth the extra money, but they're both great lenses.

I have both the M and A versions of the 50/1.4 and they're both great lenses. In fact, they may be the same glass in a different barrel.

Hehe I am interested in it too if you two did not work it out for the other 50 f1.2

I knew bhphoto is out of the stock for A 50 f1.2 for a long time. And it charges 700 dollars recently on ebay brand new. This is kind of scary.

My copy from Jonas has not yet arrived but cannot wait to test it out

I got a mint A 50mm F1.2 (somehow) for the bargain price of $400, and although I've only used it two times, it's a great and well-build lens.

Randy, the first series of bayonet lenses from Pentax is commonly known as "K." These can be mounted on the K10D just like M lenses, etc.

With the birth of the K-mOunt came the K Mount SLR and Lens Series.

ie. the K1000, K2 etc. and the SMC Pentax "K Series Lens"

(Next, Pentax created the M series k-mount slrs which prided on compactness. The 2nd lens series was born, known as the "M Series"

The ME, MX, MG, etc... and the "SMC-Pentax-M" Lens

(Electrical contacts were created to enable the camera to set aperture for program modes and communication of other data. This was knowed as the KA mount.)

Tha superA, ProgramA, A3,A3000 etc...and the "SMC-Pentax-A" lens.

..and you can see how the rest follows the evolution of the KMount

The K Lens was the first generation K mount lenses. The M Lens being the second and "A lens" the third and so on. These are all K Mount lenses and will fit the K10D all in the same manner.

Randy,
A lot of times people selling "Pentax-M 1.2" lenses are really selling "Pentax-M 1:2", i.e. f/2 not f/1.2. Pentax didn't make the f/1.2 lenses in the M-series, so if you see Pentax-M you know it isn't the superfast f/1.2 lens.

FYI.

thanks for the info.
IT is an older man who is selling the 2 old 70s' pentax SLR's with the lenses. I talked him into selling some of them separately.
I believe he knows what he is talking about, because I spoke about "M" as in manual lens, not Pentax M series.
He is also letting go a SMC 135mm 3.5. not sure if it is a good lens?

BTW will the K10 indicate these lenses are in focus?
I don't have a focus screen and I don't plan on getting one as I got out of manual focus for a reason. at least with the light indicator in the k10 I can get it in focus without relying on my eye sight

what is everyone think?

thanks

randy

the cam does respond with the red square when focus is attained with manual lenses.
