When I purchased my K-30, it came kitted with a DA18-55mm, but I almost instantly purchased a DA18-135mm. When it started suffering from "Dark Image Syndrome", I purchased a FA28-105, so I could control aperture at the lens ... and I still use that pair when I use the K-30 at all.

However, a few months later, the price of the KP fell to $700, so I purchased it and used it with the DA18-135mm - then recently purchased a DA20-40mm Ltd, which is now the lens which I most commonly use with the KP.

Pentax wildlife kit

My K-70 wears the 300mm f/4 most of the time. It's enough camera for my skill level, and the lens is wonderfully sharp.

K-1 standard zoom FA 24-90

On my K-1 (mark 1) The FA 24-90 is always on and performing quite good. Read my post on this lens if you want more info.

  • K-1: DFA 28-105 because of its versatility - but with several rivals, such as Tamron 2,8/90 macro
  • K-3: DA* 60-250, nowadays boosted with HD 1.4x converter. Quite often in burst mode.
  • K-5: DA 16-85 ... but actually not very much used any more.
    • In the past years it was, however, Samyang 3,5/8 fisheye was very much used with my other K-5 (which I passed forward after getting K-1).
As many others also stated: when having (too) many lenses, it is also inspiring to sometimes intentionally use them all - even if there was no real need to do so.

I guess that seen over a period of a month or so, the lens that has spent most time on my K3-III is a combination of SMC Pentax DA* 300/4 and the converter Pentax-DA 1.4x AW. That combination works beautifully for birds and close-ups of flowers and insects with possibility of coming really close from a good working distance,

It's Summer, so the FA100mm and ring flash live on one camera body. I'll frequently just grab the camera and make a circuit of the yard to see what's shown up.
Most often the second body will have the DA300mm for longer shots.

K1ii - Pentax-D FA 28-105mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR or Pentax 100mm Macro.

K3 - Tamron 17-50mm f2.8.

The 18 - 135 on my K-50, but I'm guessing the super takumar 28/3.5 and M300/4 are worthy contenders.

Glassware

My K1. Mk2 lives in a case with a selection of lenses. Mostly, the Pentax 15-30 is in use as I shoot interiors.
My K3 spends most of its time with the Pentax 18-135 fitted.
If I get out to a motorsport event, I have a Sigma ‘Bigma’ that I use.

On my K-3 I have the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8

and on my other K-3 I have the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8

When out and about I usually wear a harness with both cameras attached so have a range of 17 - 200mm (with a tiny gap in the middle) without needing to change lenses. Which was my rationale for buying the second K-3. I never could change a lens quickly and also got fed up cleaning the sensor.

K3 user here - another vote for the 18-135.

Or the Sigma 50-500 at airshows.
