HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 lens question

Will the new
HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 lens

work on my aging K-s2 ?

I know the general rule of thumb is that new Pentax camera bodies are compatible with older lens, but the older camera bodies aren't always compatible with the newest lens (which is the way it should be) ....

I think so, as the K-50 was the oldest camera that could use the PLM lenses.

Hi MIchael,
I think you mean for the use with an electro magnetic aperture control. As in the info on the website it works backwards up to the K50, so the K-S2 can be used with the new 16-50!. Backwards to K100D (with the right firmware) you can use PLM, which is the AF-motor. I think Ramseybuckeye got the technicals confused. PLM stands for Pulse Motor, nothing to do with aperture.

We have a tool that answers just this question:
Pentax K-S2 and HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW - Compatibility | PentaxForums.com

The use of PLM doesn't affect compatibility any differently than other in-lens AF technologies. It's the KAF4 mount that imposes limitations, which are fortunately addressed through a firmware update on the K-S2. Bodies older than the K-50 won't be able to stop the lens down.
