Pentax star (*) lens - suppose to be the best of the best engineered Pentax lens whether in the film era or digital era.
Question: Is there a list somewhere of them all, either on this site or another webpage?

Addendum: I think I found it, by going to this page and simply clicking the box next to "Star / Limited," on the right, and selecting "both" in production/not in production.

However, I don't know if there's a way of pulling in all the * lens on one page, as I know this isn't showing every one of the * lens [my 2 Asahi m macro f4 lens aren't coming up]. Perhaps I'm simply not selecting/deselecting (all) the right parameters - ?

Here is a hint...other than those with a "D" in the name, they are few in number. There are lists that include the * lenses both here and on the K-mount page.

You have no idea how fast I'd be there there wasn't 3000 km of ocean between us. Is beer included or should we bring a case?

Years ago, I went to Henry's EXPOsure and saw every Pentax lens then in the catalogue. It would be so nice if something like that could happen again. So many lenses have been released since then. The last new release then available was the 645D and DA 560 5.6. I've seen no new releases since then beyond the lenses I purchased. A sad fact of modern life. Things are for sale, but you can't touch unless you buy.

I feel left out only owning one * lens but it is a huge slab of glass. I guess I need to spend some more money, maybe get one of the 200 or 300 f/2.8 ones

I have many Pentax lenses, but funnily enough not a single star lens. I guess the DA* 300 will be my first, though. Next year, at the latest.

. . . it is superbly built, meeting or exceeding the quality of crop star-series lenses. The body is made entirely of metal, with textured rings and nice accents on the body. The buttons are well positioned and operate well. The tripod collar is ergonomically designed, with a clever system to remove the foot. The lens hood does not match the premium look (and heft) of the body and hides most of the zoom ring when reversed.

Controls are precise and easy to operate. The focus ring is large enough for comfortable use, well-dampened and does not move during AF. The zoom ring is positioned close to the front of the lens, which might displease some users. Its rotation is fluid, with enough resistance. Its throw could be shorter to allow the user to go from one end to the other in a single movement.

The focus limiter and various AF modes can come in handy for moving subjects.

Optical performance is exceptional overall— the best we've seen to date in a Pentax zoom. Sharpness is superb, and more importantly it is consistent at all focal lengths and across the frame, without weak spots. It is a lens that can be used in confidence whatever the conditions. Chromatic aberration and purple fringing are almost absent, which is impressive. Flare and ghosting, however, are noticeable when the light source is in the center. Results are better for corner illumination, but the hood should always be used to minimize risks. Vignetting is extremely well controlled, even wide open.

careful with the hood, I cracked mine where the polarizer pull out is and am having problems finding a genuine replacement
