As of 5pm EST, the new HD Pentax DA* is finally available for pre-order (edit: both Adorama and B&H have now added the lens):

HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW Lens(Adorama)
HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm f/2.8ED PLM AW Lens (B&H)

It's quite unusual for pre-orders to start this long after an official announcement, so over the coming days I'll be adding the purchase information to our existing articles and DB entries.

There will be a one-year site supporter special for those who pre-order through our link, also soon to be announced in a separate thread.

My biggest question on this lens is if it is worth the considerable weight increase. Not much sense in a lens too heavy to carry about.

It seem like the new lenses Pentax is pushing out are all at the premium end of the spectrum. This market creep ties in with the high cost of the k3iii. That said, it is nice to see the refresh on the star line in recent years.

If we want to see the next 10 years of Pentax, lenses will get refreshed, more high end glass coming, think Leica thoughts in Japan, with leadership in DSLR, IMHO
