Full frame lens suggestions please.

Hi
I have a very short term need for a full frame zoom for my K1 somewhere in the 28- 70mm range.

I don’t wish to buy a DFA lens as it would be a waste of money for the time i want it so I’m hoping someone can offer advice on a lens in the F or FA range would give a decent IQ and best suit my purpose for a walk around lens.

I would prefer a lens that isn’t a Power Zoom.

Thanks in advance

Barry

Hello,
You might find this thread useful: Cheap FF AF standard zoom: F35-135 vs FA28-70 - PentaxForums.com
In a nutshell, for your stated use (in the 28-70 range, decent IQ, walkaround lens, cheaper than D-FA 28-105), you might want to try the FA 28-70 f/4 zoom. It's small, it's cheap (around €50-80), it's common enough on the used market (often paired with a MZ-5 or similar body).
But, do not expect more than "decent" IQ, it is fairly basic. The D-FA 28-105 beats it at every fl and aperture. The best quality of the FA is its compactness and lightness.
Good luck

You can use the lens search tool:
Full Frame Lenses between 235g and 500g with Autofocus | PentaxForums.com

Important informations are missing in your post, like AF/MF, your budget and how fast you need to get the lens.

The FA28-70 f4 is a decent enough lens but suffers from element separation which renders them worthless as they can't be economically repaired. There are 3 versions of the 28-105 lens with one being better than the other two. The FA 24-90 was well regarded in its day.

The Pentax-F 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 might suit your needs. It's small, relatively low-cost, covers a useful focal-length range, and is well-regarded by users.

MrCad has one listed at ₤49.00: https://www.mrcad.co.uk/?product=pentax-af-35-70mm-f3-5-f4-5-autofocussing-lens

if you dare to put on K1 anything other than F / FA, for little money I would recommend Tokina ATX PRO SV 28-70 / 2.8, already kept at f3.2 will be better than any F / FA in that range for about the same price , you'll have an f2.8 that can be used over the entire millimeter range, a lens made like a tank that has internal zoom and internal focusing and which is very fast but noisy and which looks nice and serious on the K1 (when you put a quality UV filter on the front element that prevents garbage suction when focusing or zooming)

I would suggest the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 (more info here: Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 AF XR Di LD Macro SP Lens Reviews - Tamron Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database). Here in the US, a used copy can be found for ~$200 usd

Why not just hire the DFA 28-105?

or Sigma 28-70 2.8 EX DG , I have both.
Available on used market only.
I prefer Tamron for no particular reason , perhaps for extra 5mm at tele end.

Hi Barry,
how long do you need the lens for? & when do you need it?
I'm asking as I have a FA 28-70 F4 that is sort of spare, if it
is any use to you I can lend it to you.

Thank you to everyone who responded especially Rider0974 for the very kind offer.

The information given was very helpful and based on that I managed by luck to find and buy a FA 28-70 f/4 in great condition for the princely sum of £15.00 GBP from a local charity shop.

Once again thank you to all who responded.
