At least one dealer in Canada has the silver and black versions in stock, listed at CAD $629 (+13% sales tax) until 31 Aug 21. Including sales tax, it's equivalent to GBP £406; € 472; USD $552.
That's more like it, Craig. At that price, it's a "no brainer".

Chip shortages and supply chain disruptions have pushed all tech goods prices higher.

Incredible. At that price, it's worth UK Pentaxians buying from B&H and paying the shipping, VAT and import duty. Still works out a whole lot cheaper than UK prices...

Stupid luck, I got it in stationary "no-name" photo-print-battery-everything shop I visited to get passport photo of my ugly face (would be shame if my own lens broke ). Was not the cheapest one and I really wanted silver but when I saw it I decided to get it. Was able to haggle ~100$ down from the price, I think shop owner was really happy to get rid of it

we've been lucky here, until recently, that price was " normal " for that lens from all of the big vendors in the US - Amazon, B H and Adorama

check the price history under its " lens review "

https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/hd-pentax-da-20-40mm-f2.8-4-limited-dc-wr.html

currently B H has the lowest price by a large margin

Tiendapentaxeros have the silver one in stock at €899 here in Spain. Not available on Amazon and the other webshops I'm aware of don't state whether they have it in stock or not.

You did good! Congrats

I don't always buy the cheapest, and typically spread my purchases around a number of different retailers. Your local shop will be grateful for your business. If I had a bricks 'n' mortar supplier of Pentax equipment nearby, I'd be happy to pay a bit more to support them...
