HELP - lost the little PL filter window cap for lens hood for Pentax 150-450mm lens

The Title says it - is it possible to purchase this small piece without purchasing the whole lens hood??

DANG, Seems you're not alone in that. I might just glue mine in to be safe.

Don't know if someone out there has a 3Dscanner and can print one, or make a design for people to use. I've often thought about what I might do if I did lose one, only thing that came to mind was to cover the area with some silicon tape on the outside, then mix up some expoxy filler, and mold it in from the inside to fill the area permanently.

FYI, I use aftermarket silicon caps made by Kuvrd for many of my lenses, especially in the field. I don't know if they will stretch enough to cover this lens, but they are worth checking out.

Unlike others I never seem to get it out. So I just leave it. I do not know if it influences your picture negatively if you just leave it out.

When I get a lens with this small window, I remove it and place it in the lens box. Then I never bother with it at all. Leaving it off doesn't do anything bad to your pictures. It's not a problem, except maybe for the resale value of your lens, possibly.

I'll take one too!
Meanwhile, taped over- probably ok if left out; I just prefer the "hole" filled.

I think they all migrate to the same place as hotshoe covers and biros

I made a viewfinder cover from a coffee can plastic lid, perhaps you could make one for your lens hood!

I don't know what the policy may be in Australia but in the US Ricoh will not sell non-accessory parts to end users. However CR Kennedy customer service (from the impression I've gotten from posters on PF) goes way beyond what we get in the US. I would contact them and see if they can arrange for a replacement part.

No problem? I thought it might cause some flaring or whatever if that part of the lens hood is receiving sunlight when taking pics, allowing a side lighting of the front lens element??

I have considered some sort of taping, even if only temporarily until (IF!!!!) I can replace it?

I did drop the lens cover a couple of days ago (not the lens, thankfully!!! ) - the impact must have caused the hood to flex and make the small window piece pop out. Sniff!!

That part of the hood is normally facing the ground so it should be safe enough to leave it off.

Well, just keep the hole opposite of the sun, only upside down taking pictures is a bit difficult, but every other position will give you fine results!
