Rokinon??

I was curious about the 35mm f1.4 Rokinon lens shown on the forum home page (deal of the day) so I went the the lens data base to find it. To my surprise, I didn't see a Rokinon list of prime lenses in the third party data base. Is this just that there aren't many Pentax users of Rokinon, or did these get left out? Lastly I considered my own vulnerabilities to slow thinking with age so if that's the case, just point me in the right direction.

Samyang and Rokinon are the same.

As an owner of a Samyang 35mm F1.4 I can say that I really like it. I may have got lucky as I had no QC issues with mine. It is sharp wide open and with AF fine tuning you can use an apply to all setting when you have this lens on the camera so that focus confirmation works. But... and there are a few... It is large, manual focus is still not as precise as a tuned up AF lens can be, you make some compromises with metering and flash due to being just an A lens, and in the end I bought a Pentax HD FA 35mm F2. If you are taking your time and shooting static scenes it can be very nice but for everyday stuff it wasn't cutting it for me. Now with the HD FA 35 I almost never touch the Samyang. The Pentax is less than half the size and weight, it is AF, and it is sharp enough wide open that I am happy. I think the only reason I hang on to the Samyang is that I also have a Fujifilm X-T1 and the Samyang is great on there. It gives focus peaking in the EVF and doesn't have the same metering and flash compromises with a manual lens.

I have the Rokinon branded 1.4/35 and it is a great lens! IQ is outstanding if you nail focus ... which is much easier after installing a good and well adjusted focussing screen.
For me the only downside is size and weight.

The Rokinon / Sammy 35/1.4 is a nice lens, very sharp, very nice bookeh wide open.
It is a large lens but def excellent for low light and night shots.
This isn't a deal though .. a real deal on these is under $300

That is not a bad thing. I would hate to open the package expecting a lens, only to find a film reel. ....

Nikor (U.S. company and no relation to Nikon) never made lenses, but they did make good stuff though.

The same lens is $100 less money at B&H...

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/859177-REG/Samyang_SY35M_P_35mm_f_1_4...981&

...or, if the f/1.4 aperture is not that important, perhaps an HD FA 35/2.0 for $30 less than the Samyang might foot the bill?

Thanks Steve. That was part of my interest so I could compare it to the Pentax 35mm. Your responses and the others fit the bill for my curiosity.

And by-the-way, Nikor did make enlarging lenses which are highly regarded. One of those in the box would be appreciated

I did not know that! I did a search was reminded that the Nikor name was also affixed to some LPL enlargers at one time.

According to an online obituary, the Nikor Company was sold in the mid-1970s after being in business under its original owner since the 1930s.
