Originally posted by Rondec I don't know. A lot of people have given the DA *200 a 10, which is fine too, but that would indicate that it is a perfect lens, which it isn't. It's a bit slow to focus and it has purple fringing. A 1 is not a correct number, but as the overall score of the DA *200 is still over 9, I don't think that affects people's overall perception very much -- there are still a lot more 10s than 1s in the reviews.
(I think people are too quick to give out 10s. Even excellent lenses probably should come in at an 8 or 9).
People who post reviews on this site aren't professional reviewers so yah their reviews will be in the extremes (one way or the other). It's better just to read and get context so you can make informed decisions.
The reviews also don't account for experience. If someone gives a pentax m 28mm f2.8 a sharpness score of 10 it could genuinely mean that lens is the sharpest lens they've ever handled and their expectations are low. Conversely if someone gives a lens like the DA 200 a low score in aberrations that user might be used to lenses that are overly corrected and heavy or is just especially intolerant of such things. Or they could have a bad copy of course.
