Before and after images showed no difference in quality - which was certainly surprising. After 4 years use my HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED WR Lens has one spec of dust on the inside of the front lens (due to the zoom action), which has no effect at all on the excellent image quality from this lens.
Unfortunately I can't offhand find the Northrup video link, but it was in a video on photographic misconceptions.
