Hello everyone ;
I am planning to buy the sigma Sigma 170-500mm F/5-6.3 APO IF DG. Is this lens compatible with the Pentax kp? I had a weird experience with the sigma 70-200 and it was freezing the camera. Has anyone tried on a KP?

I use a Sigma APO 150-500mm DG OS HSM on my K-3iii, KP and K-70 with no problems, but I'm unsure of any differences between my lens and the model you quote.
FWIW, I use several Sigma zoom lenses on most of my Pentax cameras, 10-20mm, 17-35mm, 18-50mm and 70-200mm, all with no problems.

Your Sigma 70-200 was HSM, no? That was probably the issue.

The Sigma 170-500 is screwdrive, so no weird compatibility quirks.

Not on a KP, but on a K100D Super and K-30 without a problem. Mine was the older non-DG version (Sigma 170-500mm F5-6.3 APO Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database) but the optical formula and AF mechanism was the same.

Remember that this lens was produced in a variety of mounts. Make sure that it really is the K-mount version.

I'd suggest you read the reviews of both the DG and non-DG versions before buying, so you know what you are buying. There is a huge difference in the reviews of the two versions, which is surprising if the only difference is the coatings. There may be a lot of sample variation. Sigma telephoto lenses of that vintage were known for problems with the AF gear assembly and quality issues like element separation. Caveat emptor.
