I have this lens, it's one of my favorite manual focus lenses. My copy is extremely sharp even wide open, probably the sharpest zoom I've ever used! I'm suprised it's seldom discussed, an overlooked gem IMO.

It certainly is a great lens. Not only sharp and contrasty wide open, but it's very small and uses 49mm filters. It's a great portrait lens on digital if you like the longer FLs.

Unfortunately, mine hasn't been used much lately and I'm having a huge lens cupboard sale, so it's going on eBay

I wonder how it compares to the DA* 50-135, image qulaity wise at F4 and above. Obviously the DA* is 2.8, has SDM and AF. But, IQ wise, if soemone owns both.

I bought this lens from a forum member several months ago which turned out to be an excellent copy, it is very sharp at f4 and produces excellent colors. A very potent portrait lens too, especially since I got a split-screen focus screen for my K20D.

If and when I get my hands on a DA* 50-135mm f2.8, and if I don't end up selling it by then, I'd love to compare these two at f4 and above in similar focal lengths.

I recently bought this lens and I'm very satisfied.

Pentax k10d, f/4, focal length perhaps 150 mm:

+1 stop + sharpen

+0.30stop + sharpen

+1.70stop + sharpen

For me the only discomfort about this lens is that it is one one-touch zoom so is almost impossible to know the precise focal length to be set for the shake reduction system.

Glad I found this thread......I love my M75-150. Her are a couple of shots with the challenging bright sun of southern Utah.
