.

The "easiest" AF prime macro available right now is, IMO, the Pentax DA 35 f/2.8 limited.

You need to get really, really close to the subject to get 1:1 magnification with the 35, but for 90% of people, 1:2 or 1:3 is more than enough for those great bug or flower shots.

The reason I think it's the easiest is because it's so small that shake-free hand-held macro shots (or casual macro as I like to call it) is very easy to do.

With a longer lens, 100, 180mm, it's a bit harder to hold steady and get 1:1 or 1:2 magnification.

If you're going to shoot bugs with a tripod, then maybe the Tamron 90, Pentax D-FA 100, Sigma 105 would be great.

My personal favorites are the Vivitar Series-1 105 f/2.5 (Manual Focus, though,) The Sigma 70 f/2.8, the Pentax FA 50 f/2.8, and the DA 35 limited macros.

Have fun!

What Jay said. For bugs and flowers you're likely to want to use a tripod anyway, so MF isn't a real problem.

Half-step solutions might be extension rings, a teleconverter such as the A-1.4x-S or the FA 1.7x Auto Focus, Vivitar 2x Manual focusing Teleconverter (a bit of image degradation with this 2x) or even the close-up lenses (diopters) that screw into the filter ring of a normal lens.
