Sounds like a designers excuse. I was told to design flare protection, here you go… to be honest, the design follows nicely the language of all other FA ltds: lens shade included, cover fits nicely over shade, compact design, compact filter thread. So totally intentional, but a bummer for using graded filters. I totally like the design and bought the lens. Pentax added decent AF and weather sealing to the lens that was much more important! The lens is a gem.

If you are into graded filters, check out the DA* 11-18. It fits the 100mm systems and covers fullframe down to about 15mm. Here someone really checked filter thread, filter dimensions, … * glass is feature loaded, FA Ltd is classic. That’s why I bought the 21 in silver, to keep the two lines easily apart.
You need them all.

How far down you can go with a 100mm filter system depends on the design of the filter system used. With my Haida M10 I can go down to ~ 17mm without severe vignetting in K-1 FF mode with DA*11-18. Most other 100mm systems might not work, I guess.

This is why 180mm+ filter systems exist, though the cost escalates considerably.

Why not try multiple exposures and HDR merge in Lightroom. You can also apply graduated filter effects there too.

There is a proposed DFA* lens on the roadmap with a wide aperture that has yet to be announced.
I believe someone posted the leak that Ricoh changed its mind from f1.4 35mm and this was going to be a 24mm f1.4. Can't find the relevant post but someone might recall it.
The roadmap is about as reliable as the long-term weather-forecast .

My "Solution" for my holder for Formatt/Hitech Filters (100mm)

The holder fits with the aluminum adapter ring for 77mm filter thread directly to the aluminum lens hood (pushed over the lens hood )
To avoid scratches and to have a better, firmer fit, i applied a single layer of black adhesive tape to the outside of the lens hood at the top- and bottom part.

The 100mm filters must be placed in the front slot of the filter holder to avoid vignetting.
The filter holder must be placed on the lens hood until the glass almost touches the lens hood. ( max. 1-2 mm gap )

@DirkWitten: the Haida M10 77mm adaptor is getting so tight nothing fits in between. Too risky for me. In addition I can imagine the open sides of the lens' hood could yield problems with flare.
