Thanks for the replies! I did know the 62mm hood for the 70mm accepted 77mm filters; I had guessed the 58mm might have been 67mm but apparently it (or its -02 predecessor anyway) is 77mm.
I did check the Sigma site where you can still buy the -03 model but did not see the front filter thread size for the hood (it's shown for lenses, of course.) I'm wondering if the -02 vs. -03 difference might be related to the changes in the EX finish (paint) but I'm not sure.
I'm debating whether to look for an OEM hood or get a step-up ring instead so I can use existing filters (I have 67, 72, 77, and 82mm.) If the hood had been 62mm that would have not been an option. I guess I'm leaning toward the step ring because the front element is already so far recessed into the lens, and the ring could just stay on all the time. Being it a threaded hood there's no easy way to carry it reversed. If it were a bayonet hood I'd definitely go in that direction.

I think you mean that the hood is attached to the threads; I meant the female threads at the outer end of the hood.
