How much lost with 1.7X TC?

Just wondering if anyone knew how many stops were lost when using a 1.7X TC?

Understood some clarity may be lost with a lens wide open, but i'm thinking a combo of FA77 and 1.7X TC might prove to be an interesting one...

Also, the Pentax 17.X TC auto-focusses, does anyone know if this is *only* with a manual lens, or does it also do so with an AF lens? ie will my FA77 AF as normal or will the AF occur in the TC?

Cheers
Ben

I think it's 1.5 stops.

The AF 1.7x TC works w/ both AF and MF lenses, and can do AF on its own if the lens is fast enough (F4 and faster, but sometimes F5.6 will work too if the light is enough).

If you put the TC along w/ your 77, the TC will take over the AF (when you set the camera to AF). You need to pre-focus (set the camera to MF) w/ the 77 first, so to get into the range, then the TC will fine tune the focusing (set the camera to AF) to the target

Sounds abit complicate, that's why the TC works the best w/ a manual lens instead of an AF one. Otherwise you'd be busy switching AF/MF on your camera

Thanks Frank. More of an effort than I'd anticipated but possibly worthwhile. 1.5 stops isn't *too* bad a loss.

Best wishes Frank on keeping stable. Luckily I am part of a well-managed company that keeps breaking new ground and records every week!

Hopefully your LBA/CBA will be OK in the future with your lady!
