Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to buy a Pentax A 16mm f/2.8 fisheye but I'm unsure how much I should pay for this lens. Has anyone experience with this lens?

I just bought a A 50 f/1.4 with a BW +4 close up/magnifying filter for $100. This seems like a good deal or?
Would the A 16mm be in the same price range do you think?

Regards

Feanor

Pentax Lens Review Database - 16mm F2.8 Fish-Eye

If I had a chance to get the fisheye for $100 I'd jump on it. Sounds like you got a decent deal on the A 50/1.4.

You don't see them very often, I've only held one once and not on my camera, so I have no images to show. Are you going to use it on a SLR or a DSLR?
My guess would be a price 5-10 times higher than what you payed for the 50mm. But you don't need to tell that to the seller.

Ok. That much huh....
I'll be using it on my K20D, and my father has an old ME I'm planning to start using (I know there won't be any Av but..).

Looks like I'll have to jump the gun and buy this lens then.

Took a quick look: there is one on e-bay right now in Germany with a buy it now on 853 US$. Now that don't mean they will get that price, but at least before the economical troubles, prices were getting mad on the rare A lenses.

They ain't cheap these days, but then fine glass has always been expensive.

I think really it depends on what your prepared to pay, remember they are a lens, that you use only occasionally rather than everyday.

That is once the novelty has worn off.

having used the russian Zenitar 16mm F2.8 for over a year now, i honestly cant imagine how much better the pentax A would have to be to justify its price.

I have the 10-17 DA fisheye and it is a blast to use. However, I am often wishing it was faster, such as 2.8. Seems to me like a no-brainer to buy this lens. If you tire of it, you will certainly get your money back by reselling it.
Post pictures of the results!!!

dissapointed.....
Got to see some pictures today and it's a Sigma.... The guy never really said Pentax 16mm 2.8 fisheye. I just assumed since it had filters and stuff...
SO is this lens worth the bother?
The deal is that I get a P50 body,
a Pentax-A 50mm 1.7,
a A-19mm f 3.8 not sure about the brand but I suspect a Vivatar with a 62mm circular PL Hakuba(Has a more modern looking focus ring than on the pictures I've found of it).
A Sigma 16mm 2.8 fisheye,
a Tokina doubler,
a Sigma 35-200mm 4-5.6 zoom (with a non-locking aperture ring),
Some filters and the wired shutter thingy (don't remember the english word )

All of this for $170 incl freight.

So what do you think? HAs the deal lost all it's appeal without the pentax lens?

It is hard to say. The package may be worth that much if everything is in good condition. What I tend to do is to figure average value for the items I want and minimum value for the things I don't want. Applying that rule I would value the items except for the 16mm at about $85 USD on the US market. Is the 16mm worth the additional $85? Here is an eBay auction on a similar item:

170 USD? Yes, in a heartbeat.
The fisheye lens is probably worth more than that by itself, that seems to be about the price the Zenitars are going for. If it has the "A" setting, even better.
The 50/1.7 A is a nice lens, probable value 70-100$ in nice condition.
The 19mm vivitar is also a decent lens, and is helped out by the fact it is a wide angle and a full frame lens. Probable value 80-120$ in nice condition.
The zoom, the doubler, the body, et cetera probably don't have much resale value, but it doesn't mean they are worthless either.
This is assuming nice cosmetic condition and no flaws in the glass.

You are the kind of guy I like bidding when I do a listing!

I won't dispute your valuations. My earlier message was from a conservative stance based on low values for the 50mm and the 19mm. I suspect that the package is probably worth the $170 if both the 16mm and the 19mm are in decent shape, at least one is an "A" lens, and the 16mm has the full set of four filters.
