Any comments on the Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 lens

I don't see my first post on the board so I'll try it again. Sorry if there is any duplication. I just purchased this lens and it should be here this week. Time for some auto focus lenses. Any comments welcome

Thanks Ted P

All post in the FAQ section have to be approved before they are displayed, so that we're sure they're correctly placed.

I went ahead and moved this post to the lens talk forum since it doesn't belong in the FAQ. Thanks! (Posts in all other sections do not have to be approved, sorry once again for the holdup and lack of clarification.)

I got it from another ebayer for $162. I had not known about the low price of this lens last year or I would have got it then. If I had got it for $99 and found out how good they actually are, I would have bought several of them and waited for the price to go up. Cameta has them for $180 now and B&H has them for $369...

not hijacking the thread, but I have read reports of this lens being problematic on the K series digital cameras, causing a blank screen and a few other problems. And also that the lens has to be sent back to Sigma for a fix. Is this true? has anyone experienced this first hand?

Oh wow, those are great shots with that Sigma! I'll be lurking around for one of those. I won't be buying a lens any time soon. Gotta filter through the lenses I've got now and figure out which ones to keep.

What do you do when that happens?

The 24-135 is my standard walkaround lens now. Not great wide open, but certainly reasonable enough in sharpness, and the extra stop on the wideend really helps indoors.

Its not terrible. The more button presses you lay down, the more time you get before the menu goes. After once or twice you know the button pattern to press to get to say...WB or ISO and so you can do it fast enough to beat the menu blank. I dunno I'm never really noticed it to be a huge problem. I could still change ISO and everything.

Just now that I have the Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm, I don't tend to use the Sigma as much. Those images posted above are pretty good but I find the vivitar to be even sharper. Enough to draw the ire of three Nikonians at school. Haha not so much ire but at least their attention.

But yea the sigma served me well and was a very good walk around, especially in good to decent lighting and you look pro too!
