Why DA18-250 is double the price of Tamron 18-250?

Why is the DA18-250 almost double the price of Tamron 18-250? I thought they are essentially the same lens except the DA has the SMC coating?

The DA18-250 is selling for A$1099 (In comparison, the Tamron 70-200/f2.8 is selling for A$970) and the Tamron 18-250 is selling for A$649.

How could the DA18-250 be more expensive than even a 70-200??

Look for another vendor... looks to me like either someone is trying to make good money or perhaps they don't get a good deal from Pentax and can't compete.

B&H photo shows the Tamron 18-250 Di-II version at US$450, Pentax 18-250 at US$390.

Raider,

Most Tamron lenses in Aus haven't increased in price yet, but will after Christmas. Pentax pricing has increased, hence the large difference in $$$.

Thanks dazman. So any idea what will be the price increase?

I tracked the price increase of the Tamron 70-200. It was A$899 3 weeks ago and last week or so, the price increased to A$975 or something. So the price increase is not that huge. I hope Tamron prices will not escalate like a rocket, there are some lenses i have been saving my money for, a good excuse i guess to help the Rudd government to spend our way through to avoid a recession

No idea. Most prices have increased between 10-30%. Let's hope Tamron keep it at or towards the 10% mark.
