300mm f4 tripod collar broke by itself

Hello fellow Pentaxians,

How are you ?

I want to know if there is a way to replace the tripod collar delivered with the DA* 300m F4 because mine just broke while I was taking it out. I just unscrewed it because I didn't need it and one of the thing that goes inside the hole just broke. I am in the mountains so maybe this was because of the cold. But still I can't find a place where I could buy a new one.

I sent an email to Ricoh Pentax to know if this was covery by the warranty (I bought it less than 2 years ago ) but still no answer.

You can understand better by taking a look at the pictures.

Thank you so much guys

Take care

Plenty on ebay, search for Pentax tripod mount s0038100. The same part also fits the DA*60-250 and the K mount adaptor for the Q series.

Replace with the one by Fanotec.

Much better build.

Replacing it with the same, will just end up getting same outcome within 12-24 months time.
(Or if you are lucky, maybe it might last you 36months plus before getting same outcome, ie, breaking off).

Very hard to obtain the fanotech one. It took me a year to find one. The original Pentax never failed on me. As others mentioned look for Pentax q to k foot etc.

Exactly the same failure as mine.
I suspect it results from over-tightening.
I've been looking for ages, but never found anything that is actually available.
I'll check the links, above.

Cheers,
Terry

Given that it seems to be an issue, might be worth drilling and tapping that piece, and putting in a bolt.
Sellers here in UK include srsmicrosystems. Search: pentax 38100. Not cheap - 50 quid! A japanese seller might be best for the OP.

I ordered that one yesterday, and it was in stock, after not being able to locate the original one that should have come with my *300, I suspect now it did not. I've never really needed it, but there's reasons for me to have one now.

Thanks for that.
last time I looked at their site the foot was unavailable.
I've just ordered, and paid for one.

Cheers,
Terry

It's quite annoying that it breaks like this...

Okay Gatorguy
I will have a look today but the thing is that I'm living in France so I think the delivery costs are going to be more expensive than the product...

Have a good day
