Yeah, I'm wondering where he was focusing--looks sharp at the very bottom edge of the frame.
That's where I was focusing to. At 1.4 the DOF is razor-thin, so there was no way to have the whole chair sharp at the distance I was shooting from.

My FA 50 would have bled purple in those conditions

1.4 in that sun is gonna have some ca... sorry to hear the build quality is so cheap.

Still look forward to some pics

Have a good weekend.

It's not cheap, it is "mixed" - below the plastic cup with gold sticker it is very decent and on Sigma EX DG level. But the cup kills everything. If it would have been made of metal, the lens would have been a definitive keeper. Now I am simply afraid to crack the edge of the cup before I'm done with it. Perhaps an UV filter will help.

Will keep you guys posted.

The cup of which you speak...

That is what is holding the Front elements? Does it move forward and back when focusing?

IQ

I'm pretty careful with my lenses, so I'm more concerned with the IQ. How does the build quality compare with the FA-J lenses (these are about the bottom of what I consider acceptable)?

No, it doesnt move, but the edge of the cup sticks out way above the front element and this edge is of plastic. I'll try to take a picture later today.

It sounds to me like a metal screw-in hood would help a bit -- at least the frontmost edge would be metal and less likely to crack.

Enjoy!

Where did you get this lens? And , if I may ask, how much did you have to pay for it? I am very interested if it isn't too expensive...

Just wanted to thank you for all the work you put in on this, and your wallet for collecting so many of them...you made my wallet unhappy though

In your review, you mentioned the 77/1.8 and 85/1.4 are for different applications. What did you mean by that?
