Leitz Elmarit-R 1:2.8/180 and Pentax K20D

Few weeks ago I bought Elmarit-R 180/2.8 and Leitax K mount for Leica lens. Conversion took 10 minutes and here it is:

It is busy Autumn so I have not enough time to test and experiment but first impression is more then good. Lens is very, very good. Very sharp and contrast from 2.8 and gives very good colours and bokeh.

Pentax K20D ,Leitz 180mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R 1/160s f/3.5 at 180.0mm iso160

Light and reflexes are well controled.

Pentax K20D ,Leitz 180mm f/2.8 Elmarit-R 1/200s f/3.5 at 180.0mm iso160

Details are very good

and it is useful even in small room with artificial light - 2,5 meters from cat, no flash - both are crops - first 50%, second 20%

The only cons is that these lenses are quite expensive

it has very good f2.8 and f3.5 with good DOF, bokeh, colours and sharpnes. It is enough arguments for me to have this lens. Lanthar is great from f4 and much smaller: 485g vs 810g. Elmarit has nice built-in hood and with Lanthar you need to attach one.
Anyway, as for now my decision is to keep both and use them depends on situation - it means how many of them I can take with me at once

I did some quick & dirty tests. Lanthar looks to be sharper at f4. Elmarit sharpnes between f2.8 and f8 is similar in center, in borders it is weaker at f2.8. Colour rendition is similar for Elmarit and Lanthar.

Wow, thanks for this! I am bidding on one atm. I got 90mm f2 already and waiting for another 3 to come into my bag

The bokeh and colour are just stunning! Leica lenses are really something.

The blues are really weird! Is this kodachrome? :-)

K10D+Elmarit 180mm raw dbg developped in LR. Nothing pushed nor cropped.
