Newbie here lens help

Hi All,

I just inherited a K100D Super and am kinda new to DSLR photography.

I think I've narrowed it down to what kind of lens I would like between two models...

Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II

and the

SMC PENTAX DA STAR 16-50MM F2.8 ED AL (IF) SD

The Tamron lens is significantly cheaper. Is there a big difference in performance between the two?

Sorry if this is an obvious question but... I am a newbie!

both get very good reviews here

i think the DA* 16-50mm has some QC issues, but if you get a good copy you wont have any issues

i would get the tammy 17-50 because of the price

the weather-sealing on the 16-50 won't benefit much since the k100d super is not weather sealed
