Schneider/Pentax 12-24mm f/4. My other digital lens is a Pentax DA 16-45 f/4 which does very well too. Though I did not really need it, I got the 12-24mm lens with a Samsung GX-20 camera body in a clearance sale at a price I could not refuse. It seems to remain on the camera most of the time. If exchanged, a manual focus prime lens takes its place.

I don't know if I have a forever lens. Right now my favorite is the FA 35mm f/2...actually my FA 35mm is probably a forever lens because I dropped it and the damage has made it not worth selling.
I think I'm going to go with this one as well. If there's one lens going with me on my K3, it's probably this one.

My Pentax-A 35-105mm f/3.5 'Stack of Primes'. A useful range, quite fast, not too heavy, beautiful colours.

All time favorite lens: Konishiroku (Konica before they changed their name) Hexar 50mm f/3.5 collapsible in Leica Screw Mount. It just makes the everything prettier.

Favorite Pentax lens: SMC Pentax 67 LS 165mm f/4. It makes people look fantastic. My preferred combination is this lens and Ilford HP5 pushed one step.

I don't know if it qualifies as a forever lens, but I have been using it a lot lately, the DA 16-85 f3.5-5.6. I shoot a lot of outdoor bands and events and the focal length works well, the lens is quite sharp, and with the KP's extended ISO, I don't miss a faster lens. A couple of examples.

I have to come back to the
SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5 as the most used, even on my K3 it's a gem

Oh that is totally how I felt also. Until I got the K3 I didn't need that aperture control on the camera – also the IQ on the Vivitar 24mm f2 RL is just slightly sharper and has less field curvature than the SMC Pentax 24mm f2.8. That said, there is NOTHING bad to say about either lens.

The Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is a fantastic lens. I have only used it for Canon EF-S.

To do the impossible, I‘d be very happy with the Takumar 35/3.5 probably with the smallest extension ring to take close ups as well
I always have the 'Early K' version on my bike camera, the Ricoh XR7. This is probably one of the most underdog lenses in human history.

If you have a mirrorless camera, do yourself a favor and go buy the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8.

Then come back here with tears of joy in your eyes and thank me...

I have. The Limited is much better in pretty much every way and the 35/2.4 only provides an extra 1/4 of a stop of extra light, not the 1/2 that the specs suggest.

As for me,

For Pentax APS-C: DA 35mm Limited
For Fujifilm: 35mm f/1.4
For L-mount: S 50mm f/1.8, but only because there is no 50mm Sigma I-series lens or any 50mm macro lens yet for that mount
For film: Probably the M 50mm f/1.4
I will run to the local Mom and Pop Camera Store and but the Sigma I-Series 50mm f2 (or 1.8) when it is announced. Not even waiting for the reviews.

SMC-A 50mm 2.8 macro. On K3 when it's approx 75mm and K1000,

Maybe shouldn't say this here but I also use it on Fuji-X mirrorless.

On my KP I use a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 Just a great fit not too heavy had it across Canada this past summer. Great clarity sharpness and good combination of reach. Also have a Pentax 50-300 f4.5 use for any longer reach when travelling.
Lots of other lenses but those 2 are my go both very sharp and use full.
Cheers,GordZ
