I broke my Takumar 300 f/4 :(

So, it was up in the closet, and when something else got pulled down, it came too. It was in it's hard case, and it even landed on a coat on the floor, but it was still too much. When you look through it, there are two rings between some of the glass that are loose. If you shake it, they shift and move around.

I don't suppose there's any way to "crack" a lens open and see if you can put it back together, is there? I'm a handy guy, but I can't even begin to see how these are put together.

the best Pentax service/repair Technician in the US. he has 40 years of experience servicing Pentax cameras. he started with the company in 1969. hes #1, period. you can contact him, and send the lens to him. he will give you a free estimate on the repair cost. I highly recommend him, and I'm not alone in that.

seriously, if you want to have this lens properly fixed, send it to Eric.

Sorry. It never occurred to me that someone who had been a member as long as you have would not have Eric's home page bookmarked.

Yeah, i've been a member for a long time, but I don't get on here too often. Most of the time it's only when i'm looking for something specific. And i've never broken any of my camera equipment before. But, I thank you for the information. I shipped the lens off to him this morning.

If only a couple of retaining rings are loose or broken, that should be fixable easily. Well, broken rings not quite as easily, as spares are probably not readily available anymore, but there will be a solution for fixing that. Broken lenses would have been much worse. SO you have a good chance of getting your old Tak back to life...
