Price too good to pass up + xmas bonus = the longer DA*

I've really been enjoying the DA*16-50mm, one of the chief pluses being the weather sealing (not that I've actually used it in inclement wx. yet, but soon). Since everybody claims the *50-135 is a superior lens (I keep reading descriptions like, "the best zoom I've ever used", and "prime like", and "...sharpest lens...") I've been desiring one of those too, but holding off because my discretionary lens slush fund (paypal account) was not up to the task. Well last night I found one for a very good price, and then today, a christmas bonus arrived (I didn't really expect one this year) so after a brief wife-consultation the trigger's been pulled .

Can't wait!.

Congrats. The Da* 50-135mm really is a special lens. Unfortunately, it's been pretty cold in the Northeast since I bought mine recently, so I have not been able to really have fun using it--yet.

haha... you're going down my lane, heliphoto. I started with the DA* 16-50 and then ended up with a DA*50-135 a few months later. I have used the DA*50-135 and it's taken some amazing photos. My only issue is that carrying both the DA*16-50 and DA*50-135 + camera = lots of muscle growth (aka pain from heavy lifting). These are not light primes :P haha

That being said, congrats. It's a great lens and takes some amazing portraits and whatever else you can do with long telephotos. I have to make more use of mine.

Well all summer I carried around this kit in my pack (with some variation): K200D with:
  • DA 10-17
  • Sigma 24/2.8
  • SMC Tak 28/3.5
  • SMC Tak 50/1.4
  • Tamron 90/2.8 macro
  • Sigma 50-500 BIGMA

And after hand holding the BIGMA, (not always successfully of course and not for too long), I consider my Tamron 70-200/2.8 to be light. I'm looking at the 50-135 as a portrait lens and something I can take out in sh*t wx. without worrying too much to supplement the 16-50 for landscape shooting this winter. Also something I can use for candids and portraits at family events without people freaking out at the 70-200mm.

In reality I just have LBA and all the above is just rationalization.

It's funny, but I realized recently that the title of this thread could imply the 60-250's been pre-ordered, but I meant the longest DA* that actually exists !

Wouldn't that be the DA* 300mm f/4?

Oh crap! Yep good call! Uhhh, I meant DA* zoom?...

I want one of those too, but that'll be a while (unless... no it'll be a while). I forget about those beautiful *primes.

Well it's kinda a secret since it's where I got the sick price on the K20D too... Oh, ok, Amazon Warehouse Deals (amazon returned/open boxed goods - carry a 30 day return policy if I find a problem so better than used from another source I figure): $572.

Ah, I thought Amazon Warehouse Deals was my dirty little secret. Before the ebay microsoft cashback re-wrote the rules for me on good deals (please come back...), I used Warehouse Deals a few months ago to pick up my new/open box Tamron 28-75mm for like $270, when it was new for about $360. Though with the ebay cashback, until it went away, I could have picked one up new for less than that easily. But Warehouse Deals is a good option to check out when on the lookout for a camera/lens.
