DA 20-40 f/2.8-4 Limited hood cap size???

Just received delivery of a DA 20-40 f/2.8-4 Limited. On my Limited lenses, I prefer to use a snap-on cap instead of the supplied metal push-on cap with the "felt" inside.

Does anyone know what size cap will fit the lens hood? Based on the part number of the lens cap for the hood in the manual, (i.e., O-LW65A), I suspect it might be 65mm. The lens itself takes 55mm filters.

A 55mm snap-on cap, the same as the filter thread.

65 is probably correct from a quick measurement I took with a tape measure. The inside measurement of the hood looks closer to 64, I would imagine either may work. Sounds like a good idea, I may try that too.

55 is the filter size, and would be the cap size if the hood is NOT used. The hood is larger.

What's in the box is really not a lens hood - it's a trim ring. I put mine away fro safekeeping and got a real 55mm hood from B&H. Marketed as a Vello, it's a two-part design with a ring that stays on the lens and a hood that's held on by ball bearings under spring tension. It's super easy to mount and reverse the hood for storage.

You are absolutely right, I forgot all about that hood, "what hood?" I never notice it is there and I actually like that horrible lens cap. I always assumed it was a holder for the cap .
